Protect Your House During The Move
There is one thing that most people never even think about, and that is protecting their house while they are moving. You really have two houses to protect, and with all of those trips in and out of the house, there are bound to be some accidents. How many trips do you or your movers need to make to the moving truck? Every time someone comes in your house, they are tracking in dirt and other little things from the outside world. You may not care very much about your old house because you are leaving it behind, but your new house is a completely different story. You don’t want to damage anything or track a bunch of dirt in during the move. Here are a few tips that will help you protect your house during the move. These tips won’t protect your home if you or someone else accidentally drives the moving truck through the garage door, but they will help keep all of the interior corners and floors from getting all scratched up.
Protect your carpet
Believe it or not, there are carpet protectors, and they do an excellent job of protecting your carpet. All of that traffic in and out of your home can quickly ruin a nice carpet. Carpet protectors will prevent this type of problem from happening. Pick up some carpet film. Place this thin film in the high traffic areas and let everyone know that this is the only place they are allowed to walk.
Protect your floors
Hardwood, laminate, and tile floors can also be easily damaged by all of the moving traffic. When the movers are unloading the moving truck, they will be using tools like furniture dollies. These dollies are designed to make moving large furniture fast and easy, and they do the job very well. While these tools of the trade do make the movers job much easier, they can do some serious damage to your floors. You can buy temporary runners and tell everyone that they have to use them.
Doors can be moved
It can be frustrating trying to squeeze larger pieces of furniture through doors. Sometimes, the gut instinct is to just force the furniture through the door. This is a very bad idea. Not only will you damage any molding that is on the outside of the door frame, but you can also damage your furniture. Take the extra time to remove the door from its hinges. In many cases removing the door will give you plenty of space to get the furniture into the room.
Stairs and banisters
If you are moving into or out of a home that has stairs, then you will need to protect them. What would happen to the banister if a large piece of furniture gave it a good whack. It would ruin it, and it would damage the furniture. How do you protect the stairs and banisters? It is not like you can go out to the store and buy some banister protectors, but you can use furniture padding. If you don’t have any furniture padding, then some old blankets will help prevent any damage from happening.
These tips will ensure that all of your things and your house are safe when it is time to load the moving truck.
